What other people think about Linksys CIT400 Dual-Mode Internet Telephony Kit with Integrated Skype?
Good phone
I had some problems installing the phone at the beginning. But I believe generally you can reset it like how you reset your normal wireless router. For example, reset the machine when it is on, unplug the everything, plug in the internet, and then the power. Now the quality is pretty good.
Excellent product
I previously owned the Linksys CIT200. This phone was great, but required the computer to be on all the time. It also had a tendency to disconnect from the Skype program, which was easily fixed by unplugging the usb connection, and reconnecting. This didn't please my wife however. My love of inexpensive phone calls led me to purchase the CIT400 as a solution. Setting up the phone could only be easier if someone came to the house and took it out of the box for you. Just plug it in, enter your user name and password on the handset, your country code, and area code, and you're good to go. Unlike the CIT200 you can make skype out calls without dialing the country code, and local skype out calls without dialing the area code. NICE! It also works independent of the computer so I can power down at night and not miss a call. The CIT200 is a painfully slow in scrolling through the contact list from skype. This phone however powers through the list just like any other phone scrolls through a contact list. The only downside is that there still doesn't appear to be extra handsets from Linksys.
Overall this phone is awesome. The call clarity is excellent, and it's very user friendly. My wife who was very skeptical is a believer now. Her mother and father who are technophobic, are going to buy one as soon as they upgrade to high speed internet access. The price of this phone is a little high, but I'd say it's well worth it. If you want to use skype via a handset, spend the extra money and get this phone, you won't regret it.
It saves
It saves. With Skype, you may now apply a local landline number for $30 a year. Though it cost you 2-cent a minute to place a call in the US or Canada, for 1-800 or 1-866 it is free of charge. I used my cellphone to call my friends, and use CIT400 to call all 1-800 numbers. I can now call the bank and wait for the next available representative for 30 minutes. It is free anyway...
